Artist Francisco Delgado with the assistance of Artist Mauricio Olague and numerous south side student volunteers have, once again, affirmed that El Segundo Barrio is the coolest neighborhood in El Paso.
Delgado and company began their mural on Christmas Eve eve and it is now nearing completion on its eighteenth day. It is on the south wall of the Sagrado Corazon gymnasium, and has been in the planning stages for over six months. Many residents of Segundo Barrio have contributed to the project, including food, labor and encouragement.
Such community activity and creativity is rarely seen in the various neighborhoods of El Paso and the Segundo Barrio mural project may be a forerunner of what other El Paso neighborhoods could be if they could develop a sense of community and pride.
There is currently no development plan for improving these culturally blighted neighborhoods.
The mural is located on Father Rahm between Mesa and Oregon.
The neighborhood looks new and very cool.
