Locked out at the Human Rights Forum, Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico
October 20, 2007
A group of 150 people from different grass roots and human rights organizations from Juarez, El Paso, Guanajuato and Mexico City, arrived in a school bus and private cars at noon, October 20, to discuss globalization, displacement, human rights violations and femecide.
This scene ws photographed on the outside of Lomas del Poleo, an 800 acre area that was once a remote part of Juarez but has now seen the northern Mexican city- and powerful binational development interests- come to its door.
Here the human rights advocates and some residents are locked out, barred by a heavy metal gate, while the residents , who were to meet with the groups, are locked inside. The demonstration was peaceful and the human rights groups vowed to return to continue their protest and to help the Lomas del Poleo colonos to become better organized in their desire to resist appropriation and to remain on their present property.

The above forum and continuing struggle is for the right to their land of the people of Lomas de Poleo (a community of farmers which live next to Juarez).
If you could could you pass this along to you contacts or anybody thats listening because today (January 4 2008) Municipal government employees went in tore down one of the neighbors houses. the neighbor was pulled from there and taken to jail (La Carcel de piedra). Several NGO are in the Jail defending his rights and some other people stayed in Lomas defending his house. People are no longer allowed to go up into Lomas (where the pic was taken).
Please send this ASAP to everyone.
